Testimony Of A Youth

There was a time in my life when I was not a happy person. I had a bad attitude towards life and my actions and words began to reflect that. I know that some of it was just a part of growing up, but I also know that the secular music I was choosing to listen to was negatively effecting me.

I got into Christian music after I attended one of my first Christian concerts. I was blown away by the energy and excitement of it all. I never knew how much fun being a Christian could be. I began to buy Christian CD's, listen to Christian radio and of course attend more concerts. I'm so happy now and excited about being a Christian.

I look back on it all and I realize that secular music is filled with all of the stuff that I have chosen to stay away from like partying, sex, and drugs. So why should I be filling my head with that stuff? I get so much more out of Christian music. I listen to the lyrics and I think, "Wow! That is so my life!" I can relate to what the musicians sing about and I can apply it to my life. And it has helped me become a better person and encouraged me in my daily walk.

I really, REALLY liked the handout regarding Contemporary Christian Music you gave us a few weeks ago. It was stimulating to think about. I'd been searching for some texts and philosophies to back up my thinking, and it's all spelled out on paper in that little pamphlet. His opinion was so refreshing and invigorating, especially after growing up with parents who were pretty condescending in their approach to my listening preferences. But as I look back on the music I listened to, controversial as it was, I realize what an impact it had on me. I grew in my relationship with Christ because I had the influence of Christian music.

And I love it! It was "cool" even at school. I don't see anything wrong with that. I say, wherever Christ is being glorified, AMEN!!
